Investigating Key Factors Influencing High-Tech Exports in Egypt

Abstract

This study aims to develop an effective strategic innovation model for Egypt from the standpoint of high-tech exports, as a good indicator for the innovation output. The chosen design is a descriptive design to identify the key factors influencing high-tech exports as a crucial marker of an economy's capacity for innovation. The study utilized the Global Innovation Index as a main source of data, and it investigated the most influential factors on high-tech exports across different income groups. Considering the effect of the income level on the nation ability to manufacture and export high-tech products. This gave a global general insight about the differences between factors influence on the countries according to their belonging to income groups. From this view point the study took the findings discovered in the analysis made on the income group where Egypt belongs, and validate it on the case study of Egypt. Another perspective has been added to the study, to grasp another edge of the high-tech industries, which is the high-tech manufacturing. The study investigated the most influential factors on high-tech manufacturing across different income groups, and it validate the findings in the Egyptian case study. Logically the higher rates of high-tech exports should reflect higher rates of manufacturing, and this has been shown in results of the income group where Egypt belongs. Unexpectedly the combined analyses in the case study of Egypt revealed a different relation between high-tech imports, high-tech exports, and high-tech manufacturing.
